Crawl Space Insulation in Illinois

Crawl space insulation and air sealing help keep your whole home comfortable year-round.

Spray foam is often discussed for crawl spaces because it expands quickly on the surface and air seals the building. It can be applied to areas such as crawl spaces, wall cavities, between and around doors, windows and other hard to reach spots. By filling gaps and crevices, it works as a sealant against air movement and helps keep cold and heat outside where they belong. Bugs, pollen, rodents and allergens tend to make their way into a building through small holes and cracks, so closing those paths can support a cleaner, more comfortable indoor space.

Crawl space work is about the whole building

A crawl space does not exist by itself. It affects the floors above it, the HVAC system serving the building and the way the structure handles Illinois weather. Insulation helps keep heat in or out depending on the season. In winter it helps keep heat inside. In summer it helps keep heat outside. When insulation is weak, missing or settled, the HVAC system can only do so much before it becomes overworked.

We install open cell spray foam, closed cell spray foam, cellulose, fiberglass, foam board, polyisocyanurate, polyurethane board, polystyrene board and mineral wool. The right choice depends on the crawl space, the budget and the heat resistance needs. Foam insulation does not tend to settle like other options. Cellulose can fill large gaps easily but may settle some over time. Fiberglass is easier to install where there are not too many obstructions. If old material must come out first, we can pair the project with insulation removal. If the attic is also leaking energy, review our attic insulation service as well.

Residential and commercial crawl spaces

Our crawl space work is not limited to houses. We insulate offices, metal buildings, pole barns and other commercial buildings where comfort, durability and energy efficiency matter. Retrofitting older buildings is a common need because average insulating materials can struggle with extreme weather, and owners end up paying again to fix energy leaks. A better plan is to inspect the space, choose the right material and install it correctly the first time.

Illinois Spray Foam Insulation serves Bloomington, Champaign, Chicago, Danville, Decatur, Peoria and Springfield. We can install any type of insulation you want, whether the goal is to keep costs down, soundproof a room, keep dust and allergens out, or improve a crawl space that has been ignored for years.

Questions

Common questions

Why insulate a crawl space?

Ground moisture cools your floors and works into the framing; sealing the crawl space stops both and lightens the load on your heating and cooling.

What material do you use in crawl spaces?

Closed-cell spray foam, because it insulates and acts as a moisture barrier in one application.

Do you inspect before quoting?

Yes. Every crawl space is assessed in person and the written estimate names the product, thickness and areas covered.
