Attic Insulation in Illinois
Attic insulation keeps heat inside in the winter and outside in the summer, so your HVAC system is not overworked.
Many attic insulation installers use spray foam insulation because it expands on the surface, air seals the building and offers strong temperature retention. Open cell and closed cell foam each perform well, and each has its own benefits. Open cell foam is also great at soundproofing. Closed cell foam is rigid and commonly chosen when a higher resistance to heat flow is the priority. Some installers prefer fiberglass insulation and/or cellulose insulation, but those materials are not nearly as effective in an attic or crawl space insulation installation as foam. Fiberglass and cellulose are often better suited to interior and/or exterior wall installations.
Attic insulation options we install
The right attic material depends on whether the insulation is going at the attic floor, the roof deck, around framing, or into hard to reach cavities. Spray foam can be applied around wood framing, rafter bays and rooflines where gaps and crevices allow air movement. Cellulose fills large gaps easily and restricts air flow greatly, though it may settle over time. Fiberglass performs better than cellulose in many applications and settles less, but it is not as cost effective. Foam board, polyisocyanurate, polyurethane board, polystyrene board and mineral wool may also be discussed when the design calls for them.
Old homes tend to have energy leaks, which can be fixed by installing new insulation. A new home can be protected upfront before problems ever start. If your attic already has failing material, our insulation removal service can clear the way so the new installation can do its job. If the project includes nearby areas, we also handle crawl space insulation, blown-in and cellulose insulation, wall insulation, soundproofing and retrofitting. We work on residential and commercial buildings, including offices, pole barns and metal buildings.
What to expect from an attic estimate
A useful attic estimate starts with inspection, not assumptions. We look at the existing insulation, the shape of the attic, the areas where air is moving and whether the goal is comfort, lower utility bills, reduced noise or all three. Insulation helps keep you comfortable and your wallet happy by reducing the load on heating and cooling equipment. It can also reduce noise from one room to another when soundproof material is installed in interior walls.
We serve property owners in Bloomington, Champaign, Chicago, Danville, Decatur, Peoria and Springfield. Questions
Common questions
Is attic insulation worth it in Illinois?
Yes. The attic is where most Illinois homes lose the most conditioned air, so it is usually the highest-payback area to insulate.
Do you remove the old attic insulation first?
Where the old material is settled, damp or damaged, it comes out before the new insulation goes in, and we quote that step up front.
How long does an attic project take?
Most residential attics are completed in a single day.
